Two Women (Homage to Metzinger)
Oil on Canvas
101 x 76cm
Metzinger was one of the first cubist painters, being part of the Salon des Independents in Paris in 1911 which included Picasso and Braque. The Cubists were pushing the boundaries of what a two-dimensional space could be, with the introduction of photography they reimagined the depiction of space. The Homage depicts the two female figures interacting with one another in this shattered space, with the right figure merging into the background portraying the notion of the voice on your shoulder.
